Helping Kiwis release emotional pressure & reset their nervous system
Questions?
We’ve Got Answers
What actually happens?
You lie down on a mat in a softly lit room with a pillow, blanket, eye mask and wireless headphones.
You’re guided through a breathing session with music and immersive sound.
No talking. No sharing circle. Just you.
Is this going to be weird?
We don’t do woo-woo, but it might feel unfamiliar at first.
That’s okay. You’re always in control and can slow down or stop at any time.
Am I in control the whole time?
Yes. You can slow down, stop or change the intensity at any time.
You’re always in the driving seat.
Will I be safe?
Safety comes first. You remain in control and can slow down or stop at any time.
If you have a medical condition or concerns about whether breathwork is appropriate for you, check with your healthcare professional first.
What if I’m anxious or I overthink everything?
That’s okay. You don’t need to clear your mind, relax perfectly or get anything right.
Just follow the breathing as best you can.
Do I have to talk or share anything?
No. There’s no sharing circle, no pressure to tell your story and no expectation that you talk about your experience.
What will I feel?
Anything from deep relaxation to a strong emotional experience — or something much more subtle.
Every person and every session can be different.
What if I don’t feel anything?
That’s completely fine. Some sessions feel powerful and some feel subtle.
There’s nothing you need to force and no particular reaction you’re supposed to have.
Why do some people cry, shout or make noise?
Some people naturally express emotion through sound during a session — crying, laughing, vocalising or occasionally shouting.
Others remain completely quiet.
Neither is better or more successful. There’s nothing you’re expected to do.
What’s happening in the headphones?
It’s much more than music.
The experience combines guided breathing, immersive sound, music and carefully designed audio effects.
Get comfortable, follow the breathing and see where the session takes you.
Do I need any experience?
No. Most people come to their first session with no breathwork experience at all.
What do I have to believe?
Nothing. No religion. No belief system. No group ideology.
You lie down, put the headphones on and follow the breathing.
If you’re sceptical, you’ll fit right in.
Who is this for?
People who feel stressed, overwhelmed, stuck, grieving, anxious, burnt out — or who are simply curious and want to experience something different.
How long does it take and how much is it?
Napier group sessions: Allow around 2 hours. Sessions are $64 per person, or $98 when you book for two.
Private sessions: $175, and you can bring someone with you at no extra cost.
Private group and workplace sessions are also available.
New Zealand Tour sessions: Allow around 2.5 hours. Prices vary depending on venue, travel and accommodation costs, but are normally between $65 and $120 per person.
What do I bring?
Just wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
Mats, headphones, eye masks, pillows and blankets are provided.
Can I bring someone for support?
There are no spectators or people waiting inside during a session.
Your support person is very welcome to take part with you.
For a standard $175 private session, you can currently bring one other participant at no extra cost.
Is there an age limit?
Group sessions are for ages 18 and over.
Private sessions may be available from age 10, subject to our terms, consent requirements and suitability.
How often should I come?
There’s no right schedule.
Some people come once and get exactly what they wanted. Others choose to return weekly, monthly or whenever life starts feeling heavy again.
Where are you?
The Life Relief Project is at 1 Wakefield Street, Onekawa, Napier 4110.
Who or what is The Life Relief Project?
The Life Relief Project is a Napier-based 9D Breathwork practice.
9D is an internationally recognised breathwork system, facilitated by trained and qualified practitioners.
Why do I see 9D facilitators touching people?
Touch is always consensual. Before your session, you'll be asked to choose your level of comfort:
- No touch at all.
- Limited touch for communication, such as gently moving one side of your headphones away from your ear so we can speak to you.
- Supportive touch, usually no more than a gentle hand on your shoulder or holding your hand.
The purpose of touch is always support and reassurance. For some people, that simple human connection can make an enormous difference to their journey.
Whatever you choose, there's absolutely no judgement. You can also change your mind at any point.
Why would I do 9D Breathwork more than once?
We often say that 9D Breathwork is like an onion. There are layers, and sometimes your eyes water!
Each journey can be different. You might experience a significant emotional release in one session, only to discover something completely different in another.
You remain in control of how deeply you engage with the experience. There's no need to force anything or rush through the layers.
9D isn't necessarily a one-and-done experience, even though it can sometimes feel that way after a particularly powerful release.
Sometimes the next layer is something you didn't even realise was there.
Will 9D Breathwork make me feel emotional?
It can, but it doesn't have to.
Some people experience powerful emotions, others feel peaceful, deeply relaxed or simply lighter afterwards. There's no right or wrong way to experience 9D.
We often compare it to peeling an onion. There are layers, and sometimes your eyes water.
You decide how deeply you want to engage with the journey. Nothing needs to be forced, and there's no expectation that you should cry, shout or have a dramatic emotional release.
Whatever comes up, your facilitator is there to support you.
How do I prepare for my first 9D Breathwork session?
There's very little you need to do to prepare.
Avoid eating a large meal immediately beforehand, stay hydrated and wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Most importantly, arrive with an open mind and without expectations about what you should experience.
There's nothing you need to achieve, prove or perform.
Who should not do 9D Breathwork?
Your safety is very important to us.
All participants complete a health screening/waiver before every session. Certain medical conditions may make some breathwork techniques unsuitable, so it's important that you answer the screening questions honestly.
If you disclose a condition that may affect your participation, we'll discuss it with you. We may ask whether you have done 9D or breathwork before, whether your condition is managed with medication, whether you've spoken to your doctor about breathwork, or how the condition affects you during physical exertion.
Depending on the condition, we may be able to modify the breathing technique to accommodate your needs. However, some conditions may require medical clearance or mean that participation is not appropriate.
Please consult your doctor before booking if you have any medical concerns, or send us a message and ask us.
9D Breathwork is not suitable during pregnancy, and you must not attend under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.
How many people attend The Life Relief Project breathwork sessions?
Our studio-based group sessions accommodate up to 12 people, creating a small, supportive environment.
Our tour sessions can accommodate up to 80 people, although numbers depend on the capacity and suitability of each venue.
Regardless of group size, our focus remains the same: creating and maintaining a safe, supportive space for everyone.
Is 9D Breathwork safe?
9D Breathwork is generally well tolerated by healthy adults when practised appropriately with a trained facilitator, but like any technique involving changes to breathing patterns, it isn't suitable for everyone.
That's why we complete health screening before every session and explain what to expect.
You remain in control of your breathing throughout the journey. You can slow down, return to normal breathing or stop at any time.
Your facilitator is there to guide the experience, provide reassurance and maintain a supportive environment throughout.
